INFUSIONS FROM PLANTS WITH SURPRISING EFFECTS FOR HEALTH https://doctor-farm.md/en/8-2/ https://doctor-farm.md/en/8-2/#respond Thu, 07 Feb 2019 11:36:00 +0000 https://doctor-farm.md/?p=9743

Used for hundreds of years, herbal infusions are a natural remedy for various ailments. In addition, they can boost immunity, have a tonic or calming effect and can be a healthier alternative to coffee or fruit juices.

Infusions can contain just one particular herb (such as peppermint or dandelion), or a combination of several herbs that have a similar effect (such as anti-stress or detox infusions).

These herbal treatments have been used for hundreds of years all over the world, and recently some studies have shown that they can indeed relieve certain symptoms. Here are some of the most effective herbal infusions.

Chamomile infusion - is especially known for its calming effect and is recommended in cases of insomnia, depression or anxiety. Few people know, however, that it also has an anti-inflammatory and liver-protective effect, and is even useful for lowering blood sugar or relieving premenstrual syndrome.

Armoury - has hepatoprotective action, liver cell reconstruction, in viral hepatitis type A, B, C inhibits replication of liver viruses, regulates digestion, increases blood pressure, strong antitoxic effect, prevents the penetration of toxic substances in the liver and promotes their elimination (combats the harmful effect of alcohol on the liver), stimulates gallbladder activity and combats the risk of gallstones.

Echinacea infusion - one of the most popular herbal remedies for fighting seasonal colds. It stimulates the immune system, so the body will fight infections more effectively and the healing time in case of illness will be shorter.

Sage infusion - is a remedy for improving cognitive function, especially in older people. It also improves memory and mood. Those who use it regularly have also noticed beneficial effects on intestinal transit and cardiovascular health.

Infusion or decoction of rosehips - Very rich in vitamins and antioxidants, especially vitamin C, rosehip decoction is recommended for its anti-inflammatory properties. It is also used to relieve pain caused by arthritis, or in weight loss regimes, when it should be consumed over several weeks. Another beneficial effect is to protect against skin ageing, stimulating hydration and elasticity of the epidermis.

Hawthorn infusion or decoction - is used as an adjuvant in heart rhythm disorders (tachycardia, palpitations, extrasystoles), heart failure, ischemic heart disease, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, hypertension, cardiac sclerosis, incipient atherosclerosis, neurovegetative dystonia, anxiety, neuroses.

Nettle infusion - is beneficial for the immune system.  Rich in vitamins A, C, D, E and K, lecithin and antioxidants, nettle infusion can combat stress and fatigue and ward off disease. It has a laxative and diuretic effect, cleanses the kidneys and digestive tract, regulates digestion and fights infections in these organs. It can combat diarrhoea and boosts metabolism. These effects, together with the antioxidants in its composition, also make it ideal for slimming cures. It thins the blood and improves heart activity and, thanks to its vitamin K content, increases the natural clotting rate of the blood.

Elderflower infusion - also known by its Latin name Sambucus nigra is a wonder plant with powerful therapeutic effects that can treat and especially prevent a huge number of ailments. Elderberry flowers and fruits are often used to treat herpes simplex, rheumatic problems, inflammations of the respiratory tract, reducing inflammation and soothing irritations.

TOP 5 HEALTHIEST TEAS https://doctor-farm.md/en/5-2/ https://doctor-farm.md/en/5-2/#respond Tue, 24 Oct 2017 11:36:00 +0000 https://doctor-farm.md/?p=9737

The health benefits of herbal teas are comprehensive and completely natural. White, green, red or black, tea has numerous health effects, the most important being its antioxidant effect, which prevents ageing. Rich in minerals (calcium, iron and potassium), a cup of tea a day can be extremely beneficial for the body but also for the beauty of your skin.
Discover 5 of the healthiest types of tea and the benefits for your body:
1. Green tea

Thanks to the many antioxidants found in its composition, green tea is extremely beneficial for the whole body. This tea stimulates the metabolism to work at a faster pace, thanks to a component called catechin, which fights against fatty tissue on the abdomen. For example, it helps and increases blood flow, fights the flu virus, lowers blood sugar levels, lowers cholesterol, fights bacterial infections, works as a powerful antioxidant and is a major contributor to preventing the effects of ageing and maintaining good health.

How to prepare correctly: first of all, it is advisable to buy green tea from places specialising in the sale of natural products and teas, and another tip is to choose packets containing tea leaves and not tea bags. Hot water diminishes its flavours and therapeutic properties and gives it a bitter taste, so brew it with warm water (around 70 degrees Celsius) and, very importantly, steep it for only 1-3 minutes. Enjoy its natural flavour without adding sugar. Consumption of green tea should be limited to those who have problems with calcium assimilation. Consumed in excess, it can cause nervousness, palpitations, insomnia.

2. Mint tea

It is one of the most popular teas and can do wonders for our body. It is one of the most effective antioxidants, dissolves fats and stops the absorption of fatty acids, making it a reliable ally in the fight against extra pounds.

A first beneficial effect of mint is that it reduces stress. They also relieve colds, headaches or symptoms caused by anxiety. Regular consumption of this tea reduces bile problems and reduces gallstones, helps to strengthen the immune system and reduce the occurrence of infections in the body and prevent flu, blood circulation is improved.

Peppermint tea made by boiling the leaves is more effective in treating gastric problems than that from dried leaves. Make an infusion of 2 teaspoons of dried herb or a few leaves of the green plant and pour boiling water over it. Peppermint tea is also ideal after a large meal, as it aids digestion. But be careful, if consumed in excess, peppermint tea constipates you, which will make any weight loss cure more difficult. Therefore, do not drink more than 3 cups a day and try to alternate it with other slimming teas.

3. Ginger tea

It gets rid of headaches because it has a strong anti-inflammatory effect. Drink a cup of ginger tea when you have a headache instead of all sorts of drug treatments. Ginger tea combats digestive discomfort (prevents diarrhoea, flatulence, bloating and indigestion), strengthens the immune system thanks to its high amount of antioxidants, prevents rheumatoid arthritis, gets rid of menstrual cramps and helps relieve stress, as it has an energising effect, which is why it is not recommended to drink it in the evening.

4. Tea of rosehips

Few people know that apples contain 10 times more vitamin C than lemons, having a tonic effect, quickly revitalises the body and strengthens the immune system, eliminating microbes and bacteria. Thanks to its high vitamin C content, it has an anti-aging effect, which is confidently recommended by geriatricians (who deal with the diseases of old age) to people who want to maintain their youth. The tea is prepared by infusing fresh or dried fruit. These are infused with boiling water so as not to destroy the vitamins. It is recommended to drink the tea with all the fruit, and when it gets warm you can add a teaspoon of honey.

5. Chamomile tea

It helps to reduce headaches, which are very common with a bad cold. In combination with lemon and a few teaspoons of honey, chamomile tea is a good antiseptic and soothes a scratchy throat and various stomach ailments. It can also be used successfully for anxiety and nervous problems. It is indicated in all diets, because it helps to maintain body weight, balance fluids in the body and, in addition, inhibits the development of harmful cells, so prevents cancer, keeping the body young for longer. For example, 3 cups of chamomile tea a day can reduce irritable bowel and colitis problems. To make the tea, add one tablespoon of chamomile flowers to a cup of boiling water. Leave the cup covered for 10 minutes, then strain and drink. To get rid of stomach problems you can do a cure with chamomile tea for two months.

THE BEST PLANTS FOR A HEALTHY LIVER https://doctor-farm.md/en/4-2/ Tue, 03 Oct 2017 11:36:00 +0000 https://doctor-farm.md/?p=9735

The liver is the largest and most important organ of our body that performs hundreds of simultaneous operations to regulate blood circulation, manufacture amino acids and regenerative substates, playing a fundamental role in detoxifying substances entering the body.

Because of the toxic environment we live in, the additive-laden products we ingest, unbalanced diet, lack of sleep, etc., liver function is hampered. Toxic substances remain in the liver for a longer period of time until it is able to discover them, and if the toxicity becomes too great, then its functions are impaired and it can no longer work properly. Nausea, constant fatigue, acne, headaches, metabolic and hormonal disturbances are just some of the symptoms that occur when the liver is fatigued.

If the liver is responsible for removing toxins from the body, doesn't it need to be detoxified as well?

Even if the tests come back fine, and the liver seems to be fine, we must not forget that it is under pressure every day from all the chemicals introduced into the body that affect liver functions, specialists warn us.

The liver filters incoming substances, it is the organ where immunoglobulins are produced, where temperature sensitivity is regulated and bile is secreted to digest fats.
Herbs are a safe and handy source of liver detoxification. Starflower, artichoke, olive leaves and dandelion protects liver functions from everyday threats, providing solutions to get the body out of a state of continuous fatigue.

Rich in silymarin, amino acids, lipids and fumaric acid, amurarium is indicated in the treatment of inflammatory liver diseases, acute or chronic hepatitis, alcoholism, cirrhosis of the liver and various intoxications affecting the liver cell.
Artichoke is known to facilitate digestion through bile secretion, promoting the elimination of bile juices in the duodenum. Thanks to its rich content of didepside, chlorogenic acids and flavonoids, artichoke helps to reduce cholesterol in the body, stimulates the liver to secrete bile juice and contributes to the regeneration of liver cells, and is also a good diuretic.

As for olive leaves are special because they contain a compound called oleuropein, whose value derives from the fact that it is one of the most powerful natural antioxidants that prevents the deposition of bad cholesterol on the arteries and the premature ageing of cells.
Also, the properties of olive leaves have an important effect in preventing the oxidation process of the body, also helps stimulates digestion while also regulating blood pressure.

Dandelion but it is an excellent herb for treating the liver. All parts of the flower are used, especially the radish as a basic remedy.

Attention! Fresh fruit or vegetable juice, regular tea and water consumption, exercise and a restful sleep should be part of an effective liver detox lifestyle.

THE TEA CUP STORY https://doctor-farm.md/en/2-2/ https://doctor-farm.md/en/2-2/#comments Fri, 11 Aug 2017 11:35:00 +0000 https://doctor-farm.md/?p=9731

One day, an elderly couple traveling in England, enter an antique shop to buy something nice for their 25th wedding anniversary. The woman's attention was immediately drawn to a beautiful teacup and she asked the shopkeeper to show it to her. Only the teacup was more special than the woman had imagined: he started talking, to the surprise of both of them, he said:

But I wasn't a teacup from the start. A long time ago I was just a lump of red clay with no particular purpose. Then a potter saw me, took me and kept beating me, kept kneading me, kept rolling me, while I cried: Let me go, it hurts! I don't like it, don't do that! But the potter said: Not yet!

And it didn't end there: he put me on a wheel and spun me, spun me, spun me over and over, I was dizzy until I was sick! And again I said: Stop it, I'm dizzy, I feel sick! But the potter, quietly, said: Not yet!

Then again he kneaded me, kicked me, threw me and moulded me into the shape he wanted. And he put me in a hot oven, it was so hot, I felt like I couldn't stand it! I wanted to get out of the oven, I kicked the door, I kept screaming desperately, I begged him in tears: Get me out of here, please, I can't! But the potter said again: Not yet!

And just when I thought I was going to die of pain in that kiln, the door opened and the potter pulled me out. He carefully placed me on a shelf and I began to cool off. It felt so good, the ordeal was finally over, I thought to myself.

But it wasn't over: he picked me up again, brushed me, coloured me with all sorts of paints - it smelled awful, I was sick. I screamed: Let me go, please, have pity on me, I can't! But the potter said: Not yet!

And you think my ordeal is over here? No, he threw me in the oven again, only this time it was twice as hot! And again I begged him with tears in my eyes: Please, get me out of here, I can't! That time I thought I'd never get away, it was that bad. But just as I was about to give up, the potter pulled me out, put me back on the shelf and I started to cool down, to feel good.

But I thought I wasn't getting off that easy, what was he going to do to me next? After a while, he showed me a mirror and said: Look, that's you!

I looked in the mirror and exclaimed: That can't be me! She's so beautiful! I'm so beautiful!

And then the potter said to me: I know you've suffered and cried and ached when you've been kneaded, rolled and kicked, but if you'd stayed a lump of clay you'd have dried up. I know you got dizzy bad when I spun you on the wheel, but if I'd stopped, you'd have broken into pieces. I know it hurt and it was hot in the oven, but if I hadn't put you there, you'd have cracked. I know you got sick from the smell of the dyes, but if I hadn't brushed you and colored you all over, you wouldn't have really browned and you wouldn't have the shine you have now that everyone will see. And if I hadn't put you in the oven a second time, you wouldn't have survived. Now you're whole and strong and beautiful.

You've probably figured out by now what the moral of this story is: when it seems like life is hitting you, knocking you around, throwing you from side to side and you're suffering beyond your strength, it's actually strengthening you, so that you can become a stronger person and shine in the world as much as you can, more than you think you can.

So, next time you encounter moments like this, make yourself a cup of tea, drink it from the loveliest cup and think about this story.

TRUE AND FALSE ABOUT TEA https://doctor-farm.md/en/1-2/ Fri, 21 Jul 2017 11:35:00 +0000 https://doctor-farm.md/?p=9729

It is well known that after water, tea is the most consumed beverage in the world. There isn't a corner of the world where people don't drink at least one cup of tea a day. Originating in China, it has been grown and drunk for more than 2,000 years. Today, its health benefits are scientifically recognised.
As with any kind of treatment, herbal or otherwise, tea is also attributed qualities and flaws that may not even be true. Indeed, some teas have even created real legends.
Let's see what's fake and what's not.

  1. It's not good to drink it hot

FALS
We can drink it as hot as we can bear, as it has a vasodilating effect on our capillaries, thanks to the flavonoids it contains. A quality that benefits us in both summer and winter. By dilating capillary blood vessels, the sensation of warmth in cold weather will be more intense. Conversely, in hot weather, vasodilation of the capillaries has a cooling effect, as it increases heat loss. So it is recommended to drink hot and during hot weather.

  1. People with anaemia should limit tea consumption

TRUE
The polyphenols contained in tea chemically 'bind' to iron from food and prevent it from being absorbed. Women, but especially children, should avoid drinking tea before or immediately after a meal, especially if their daily diet is not high enough in meat and meat products (the body's main source of iron). If tea usually accompanies your meals, it would be good to consume foods rich in vitamin C at the same time (for example, drinking orange juice or lemonade made from fresh lemon), which does not allow polyphenols to hinder iron absorption.

  1. Gives us cavity protection

TRUE
The tea starts working for you from the first sip. The substances it contains, especially polyphenols, prevent the bacteria in your mouth from producing acids that attack your tooth enamel. To relieve a toothache, the Chinese advise us to chew a few green tea leaves, and in the case of canker sores, to speed healing and relieve pain, apply a moistened black tea bag to the affected area.

  1. Can give insomnia

TRUE
If you consume it in large quantities, you may have trouble sleeping. Why? Tea contains 2 stimulants, caffeine and theophylline, which are less harmful than those in coffee. Depending on its variety, a cup of tea provides 2-3 times less caffeine than a cup of coffee. However, there is a problem. The caffeine in coffee is released quickly and acts briefly, whereas the caffeine in tea diffuses into the body over a longer time and therefore has a prolonged effect. Consumed in moderation, however, it boosts alertness and increases the brain's ability to analyse the information it receives daily. In conclusion, if you don't want to stay up all night don't drink more than 5-6 cups (cups, not mugs) of tea a day.

  1. No milk or lemon is healthier

FALS
The polyphenols in tea bind to iron from food (especially meat) and prevent its absorption. So it's best to drink tea between meals to avoid iron deficiency. In addition, it is advisable to add milk or lemon to the tea - these saturate the iron ions, which will be better absorbed this way.

  1. Prevents cardiovascular diseases

 TRUE
Tea increases your daily intake of antioxidants, which help maintain good health. Both green and black tea contain flavonoids and polyphenols, substances with antioxidant effects, which prevent the action of free radicals, the "enemies" that age us before our time and are associated with cardiovascular disease, cataracts and cancer.
2 cups of tea contain as many anti-oxidants as 7 glasses of orange juice or 20 glasses of apple juice. 3-5 cups of tea a day have been shown to combat hypertension and normalise cholesterol levels, the main risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Regularly drinking just one cup of tea a day can almost halve the risk of a heart attack, and in people over 50 this healthy habit reduces the risk of stroke by 70%.

Preparation rules

The usual ways of preparing tea are infusion and decoction.
For infusion generally use the delicate parts - leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds - while decoction is used to extract substances from the "hard" parts - roots, bark.

* Put the leaves or the sachet with the herb in a glass or ceramic teapot and not in metal pots, which can give the tea a strange taste. In general, 1-2 teaspoons of dried herb or 2-4 teaspoons of fresh herb are used for a cup of tea. Read the brewing recommendations carefully.

* Pour hot but carefully not boiling water (70-80°C) over the plant. It's best to use spring water or still mineral water - sink water contains chlorine and other chemicals.

* Cover the pot tightly and leave to infuse for 3-4 minutes. It will retain its colour, aroma and taste.

*Stretch it carefully. It's not good to let it steep too long, as too much tannin is released and the tea will be bitter.

MINT - THE LEGENDARY HERB https://doctor-farm.md/en/new-sound-track-about-ochahouse/ https://doctor-farm.md/en/new-sound-track-about-ochahouse/#respond Thu, 22 Jun 2017 08:39:00 +0000 https://doctor-farm.md/?p=5423

Fresh mint leaves have been used since ancient times to treat ailments, and ancient Arabic cuisine has found this fragrant herb to be a tasty ingredient in the kitchen.

Mint preparations, excellent remedies on hot days

All mint preparations: infusion, oil, vinegar, wine, tincture, as well as the aromatic mint water are excellent remedies especially in hot weather.
On hot days, in combination with lemon, mint tea cools and hydrates us, giving the body energy. At the same time, the aromatic plant is also an excellent condiment, used in gastronomy, added to salads and sauces for its unmistakable cooling effect.

Legend has it that the nymph Minthe fell in love with the god Hades, arousing Persephone's jealousy. To rid her of his wife's wrath, Hades transformed the nymph Minthe into a fragrant plant, as pleasing as her face.

Native to the Mediterranean basin, mint was once prized by the Greeks and Romans. These peoples are said to have spiced their wines and sauces with mint and decorated festive meals with bunches of mint. Since those distant times, mint has remained a symbol of hospitality and cheerfulness, because anyone who appreciates its aroma is in a good mood.

For toothaches, crushed mint root was held in the mouth and macerated in brandy. Tea was also taken for coughs, chills and chest pains, and to ease childbirth. Cold mint tea was drunk against heart pains. The tea was also used for insomnia and to calm a stressed body.

Mint contains exceptional active substances

Thanks to its exceptional active substances, peppermint has a sedative, disinfectant, external healing, antidiarrheal, antiperspirant, pain relieving and intestinal transit regulating effect. The leaves and all parts of the plant contain essential oils, lipids, phenolic acids, tannins, paraffin mixtures, flavonoids, carbohydrates, enzymes, along with vitamins C, D2 and numerous mineral salts such as potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, manganese, zinc, boron, copper and molybdenum.

Did you know that the plant also has lesser known therapeutic effects?

Izma treats a variety of ailments, from gastrointestinal pain, indigestion and anxiety. In his pleadings about this plant, Eugen Giurgiu, PhD in biochemistry, with expertise in phytotherapy and nutrition, says: "Good Izma is the species of medicinal mint that contains the most effective active principles and curative properties. The important active substances contained in this plant, such as menthol (a valuable essential oil), antibiotic compounds and mineral substances have a strong antiseptic and soothing action. This is why phytotherapist Eugen Giurgiu, in his studies, draws the attention of herb lovers to the fact that mint also has lesser-known therapeutic effects: as an infusion, mint invigorates the nervous system and gets the blood moving. What's more, a course of mint preparations: infusion, oil or syrup invigorates the whole body, combats palpitations and anxiety. Used in three to four week courses, isma infusion improves liver function, bile secretion and soothes irritable bowel. At the same time, peppermint syrup is tonic and shortens the convalescence period after colds and flus".

Due to its potassium content, peppermint tea keeps high blood pressure under control and is very useful for hypertensive patients. It also works wonders in the fight against heart disease.

Good to know!

Drink two teas a day, and avoid excess, as mint is constipating.
